Hey, I Love That!! .... Never Mind.

As a plus size woman, these are words I have muttered far too many times.
I'm sure you've all read enough about the whole #plussizewars thing, but it has really struck a cord with me; as I'm sure it has with many, many other women.

Shopping used to be one of my favourite things in the world, yet nowadays the thought of shopping for clothes is welcomed with a quick moment of excitement, followed by a sick feeling of dread.
From the age of 13 I was smaller than a size 12, and have since been a size 16 for many of my adult years. Ok, I only gave birth to my son a year ago, and I have lost almost 50lbs since giving birth but I am still a size 16.

Shopping days now welcome me with unsuccessful trips to the changing rooms, complete with unflattering changing room lights, and journeys home empty handed. For example, last Monday we went to Bluewater and I was on the hunt for a dress to wear to a wedding. I went into four different shops, struggled to find anything long enough to cover my bum, wide enough for my hips and classy enough for a wedding. All of those things just didn't go together. I tried on three dress in those said shops, and zero fit. Don't get me wrong, I would have happily sized up, had the option to do that been there. Luckily, the last shop I was willing to try was a successful one and I came out after finding the perfect dress on sale. But, that wasn't before my self esteem had been knocked to the ground and I spent the rest of the day feeling pretty crappy about myself.

Online shopping is pretty much the same deal. I see something I love, and then quickly realise that a size 14 is the biggest size they make it in. ( Or a large, meaning about a 14.)  I understand that many brands have plus size ranges now, but why makes totally different clothes for that range. Why not just adjust certain items to fit larger women? I'm constantly left feeling like my style isn't my style because I can't find anything in my style that will fit. I often buy and wear clothes because I have no other choice, leaving me feeling pretty dowdy and boring. I know exactly what I want to wear and how I want to wear it, it just seems impossible being a girl with huge hips and a big ass.

I recently made a wishlist of items that I'm loving at the moment. All stuff I would love to be able to buy, but can't. In my eyes, flares are the perfect trouser for me to wear. The wide bottoms would totally even out my mahoosive hips, so why is it so darn hard to find a good pair of the that would actually fit me?

I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in feeling like this, and maybe, just maybe, one day we won't have to.

  1. This!!!

Amazing post, couldn't agree with you more! I hate that clothing stores stop at a size 16, they say they want women to feel confident and comfortable in what they wear but how can you feel comfortable when your being discriminated from the word go just for being "plus sized"
And having to go to certain sections on the website or a whole website altogether ticks me off :( we like to be fashionable too!!!

Fingers crossed it changes one day :)
